OMV Petrom continues to support the modernization of the Ploiești County Emergency Hospital

  • Sponsorship in amount of around EUR 2 million will support the modernization of two operating rooms of the hospital
  • The total contribution of OMV Petrom amounts to EUR 7 million
  • The hospital will offer a fully revamped and equipped surgical unit designed to carry out highly complex operations

OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in South-Eastern Europe, increases by additional EUR 2 million its contribution for the modernization of the Ploiești County Emergency Hospital`s surgical unit. This is the third contribution to this important medical institution and adds to the EUR 5 million sponsorships made in the last two years. The latest contribution will be used to modernize the most important operating rooms, for neurosurgery and general surgery. Thus, the entire surgical unit will be brought to standards that will allow highly complex interventions.

The fact that they think about the community and that they have faith in this important transformation of the County Hospital is an extraordinary thing. Together, we can achieve truly important things. The people of Prahova deserve the best quality medical services and I am absolutely convinced that, once the modernization project is finished, we will be proud of one of the most efficient and well-equipped hospitals in all of Romania."

The sponsorship will cover the cost for important medical hardware such as surgery and neurosurgery tables, high performance anesthesia machines, complete neurosurgery equipment, complete urological surgery equipment, defibrillators, radiology machines etc. In the last two years, 11 of the hospital's 13 surgery rooms have already been equipped with complete modern operating lines supported by OMV Petrom.

OMV Petrom has been continuously involved in major projects for the Romanian health sector. The company supported with EUR 10 million the Daruieste Viață Association for the first oncological hospital for children in Romania. This year, the company announced a EUR 7 million sponsorship for HOSPICE Casa Speranței, the most important foundation providing palliative care services in Romania. Also, OMV Petrom supported the Blondie Association with EUR 1.5 million, to facilitate the transport of patients, especially children, whose conditions cannot be treated in our country. The company has also been involved in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the Red Cross and frontline hospitals with EUR 1.4 million. In total, in the last 5 years, OMV Petrom has supported the Romanian medical sector with over EUR 27 million.

The Ploiești County Emergency Hospital is biggest medical institution in Prahova county. The hospital serves a population of over 800,000 inhabitants from Prahova county and neighboring localities, has over 65,000 hospitalized patients, and over 160,000 patients per year in the emergency unit.

Since 2007, OMV Petrom has included corporate responsibility principles into its business strategy. Between 2007 and 2022, the company has allocated around 120 million euro to develop communities in Romania, focusing on environmental protection, education, health, and local development.

On July 29th, 2020, OMV Petrom announced its support for the recommendations issued by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) regarding risks and opportunities on climate change. OMV Petrom annually reports on the progress made in implementing these recommendations.
